Behind the Scenes: Team Day at TinkerBox and Cluster One

We all met to be together for the first time in the new year at TinkerBox for Maxine’s long awaited Team Day! We had originally planned for the Team Day to take place in December before the holiday break; unfortunately, some of our team got sick so we made sure everyone rested and nobody else caught anything. Now that we’re all starting the new year healthy, we finally got to be together and have another Team Day. In case you missed our other Team Days, there are blog posts for each one: Colbi’s Team Day at Tranquil Abiding, Holdt’s Team Day at Cold Spring Creek House and Lasting Joy Brewery, and Gina’s Team Day at Storm King and pasta making at TinkerBox. For Maxine’s Team Day we made gingerbread houses!

Gingerbread House Building

Let me switch to first person since it was my team day after all. Ever since we found out that Team Days were going to be taking place, I knew I wanted the team to make gingerbread houses. Making gingerbread houses is a tradition that I do every Christmas trip at my grandparents’ cabin. I’ve been making them for as long as I can remember, and I’m so thankful to my grandmother for always prepping the gingerbread house beforehand so that my sister and I can come over and go straight into decorating (for around 4 hours that is…). Prepping these slabs of gingerbread for the team definitely made me extra grateful for my grandmother’s efforts!

As one of the non-architects of the group, I was really excited to see what each team would come up with. We laid out the gingerbread pieces I had prepared which included a bunch of gingerbread strips, walls and sheets, and some stained glass jolly rancher windows. We split into four random groups, assigned everyone their clients (a gummy bear family of six), and let them get to brainstorming and building! Only a few gummy bears were harmed in the process…

Cluster One Visit

We took a break from building and headed over to Cluster One to have lunch and check out the construction progress. Here I passed the mic over to Ben F who gave everyone an update on the project and a tour.

Gingerbread House Decorating

When we returned to TinkerBox, we went back to our houses and decorated them!

Team Trivia

After we cleaned up all of the loose candies, icing, and scrap pieces, we played some team trivia. Since I’ve been collecting fun facts about each team member as the writer for the Meet the Team blog series, I was able to make trivia questions for the team. I used Kahoot, which allowed me to have multiple choice or true or false responses. The questions and answer options would show up on the screen and everyone got to vote for the answer on their phone. It was such a joy to see everyone laugh and show how well they know one another. Kahoot automatically made the trivia into a competition which of course everyone got really engaged with. Amlin caught the giggles which was my favorite part.

…and that’s a wrap! It was such a fun day and I was so happy to share an activity I adore with the Studio MM team.
