Behind the Scenes: Team Day at Tranquil Abiding

We’re so excited to introduce and share more about our new series of Team Days! Inspired by spending time together in-person as a team away from our computers and encouraging relaxation and team building, Team Days were born. Once every two months someone in the studio will be assigned to plan a Team Day for everyone. Colbi took on the first day and set the bar very high for the rest of us. In this blog we’ll share what we got up to on our special day.

Home Tour at Tranquil Abiding

We began our Team Day at Tranquil Abiding where our clients gave us a lovely tour of their home. We are so thankful for their generosity in letting us into their home and sharing a trip down memory lane on their experience of working with us. It was the first time coming to Tranquil Abiding for some of the team; you can really take in the scale of the home and the relationship it has with the site in a different way in person.

After touring the interior, we walked around the home. Many of the first time visitors were surprised at how high up the floating concrete slabs supporting the main bedroom were. While we were oohing and aahing over the concrete and stonework, Colbi was setting up the next part of the day. Colbi kept the day a surprise so many of us tried to sneak some glances over to where she was. Laying out papers, pens, watercolors, markers, and more, Colbi set up a beautiful spread of materials on a table. Once she was ready we all gathered around eagerly.

Drawing Activity

Colbi recently presented during a Lunch and Learn that left us all inspired to draw more often. She shared drawings from Michelangelo, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Zaha Hadid, and Steven Holl to name a few. As an extension from the presentation, Colbi gifted us the rest of the Team Day to draw our surroundings, whether that be the house, the ferns, the trees, or the rocks. We grabbed whatever materials we wanted to use and placed them in a roll-up pencil case paired with a drawing board both Colbi so generously got for everyone in the team. We then all dispersed throughout the site and the home to find a place to sit and draw.

Every so often Colbi would walk around and take a look at each of our drawings, offer some tips, and encouragement.

After drawing for a bit we gathered again and Colbi shared some inspirational quotes inspired by each of us. The thought and care that went into planning this Team Day is one that we will always hold close to our hearts. We felt each others’ support and all went home feeling a little lighter. Now that we’ve given the run down of the day you can understand why the bar has been set pretty high with this first one. We are all looking forward to the next Team Day and to host each of our own! Thank you Colbi!
