We’re trying something new this month and sharing some mid-month updates on our projects, construction and what we’ve been up to in the studio. The transition from August into September has brought our first cooler mornings and therefore the first longings for fall. It also signals the start to a couple of busy months.

About half of our studio is traveling out to Seattle next week to attend the annual CRAN conference. We’re looking forward to an engaging series of lectures, meeting colleagues from across the country and – perhaps most of all – the home tours! CRAN also gives us a good deadline for work we’d like to finish before mid-September, so we’ve been busy designing, detailing and being on site this month.

Field + Supply Prep

We also had a very fun team day this month in preparation for Field + Supply in mid-October. We’ve been working on developing a semi-modular structure that can serve as a home gym, office, kids’ playroom…and much more! We’ve been working on building a model of the design and are looking forward to sharing more soon. Stop by and visit our booth!

Under Construction

Construction continues to make good progress on many of our projects. The Centor bi-folding doors have been installed at IRIE House and soffit installation is currently underway. The roof is also now complete – the views from the future roof deck are going to be spectacular!

Over at Fermata, deck piers have been poured, backfill is being completed and deck framing is starting this week! We’re also continuing work on the stucco installation. On the interior, tile and millwork are making good progress!

The stairs at SkyHaus were installed in August, as were the metal railings on the second floor terrace.

Down in the city, we’re renovating an apartment in Brooklyn. Glass railings were installed recently & construction is nearing completion on this one. We’re looking forward to seeing it next week!

Demo continues at Artists’ Ranch and we’re working on approving steel shop drawings.

The deck railings have been installed at AA House – we’re looking forward to (fingers crossed) this project getting a CO this month!

Over at Barnstormer, countertop install is scheduled for this week. The steel fireplace looks fabulous, and we love the poured concrete porch adjacent to the living room.

Details + Design

We’ve also been working on a couple of fun design projects in the past month! We just finished up Schematic Design for a new project called Quattro. As you might imagine, the project pulls a lot of inspiration from squares and the number four. We’re looking forward to getting into 3D on this project this week!

We’ve also been helping our clients finalize tile selections for 8 Oaks. We’ve been putting together renderings to mock up what different tile layouts might look like in the pool bath and shared bath. We’ll be looking at samples and finalizing selections soon.

We’re also working on a very fun mid-century modern renovation. We’re respecting the original design while helping the clients repair the roof and modernize some of the spaces.

Last week, we completed Construction Documents for Jardin 66. We’re looking forward to starting construction on this project in early November.

Looking Ahead…

Phew – it’s been a busy month! The second half of September promises to be just as fun, starting with CRAN. We also are excited to take final photographs of Wass House in late September and get final edits back from our in-house photographer for Cold Spring Creek House. We’re currently working on finishing up our fall issue of Valley MMag, continuing our prep for Field & Supply, and looking forward to even more professional photography in mid-October! Finally, it’ll be Studio MM’s 14th birthday this weekend – what better way to celebrate than being in the swing of so many fun + exciting things!
