I can’t believe it’s July already and we are over 6 months into this year!! As they say… Time flies when you’re having fun! …And we most certainly have been having a lot of fun!
At this mid-year mark I thought I’d share what’s been going on lately with Studio MM. We currently have 8 exciting projects under construction, and I’m thrilled to be able to update you on their progress. Some we’ve already introduced on social media while trying to share more about our design process, but there are a couple we haven’t talked about before today… because our clients requested we not share until the projects were truly “breaking ground.”
We are so happy to be moving forward and building all of this architecture we’ve worked so hard with our clients to create! Can’t wait to share more updates as we continue construction!
Accord Depot
We are renovating a former train depot located in the heart of downtown Accord, NY into a residence (which will include a dance studio) for our wildly creative clients. They asked us to design a modern re-do of this historic 1902 structure, but were adamant that the architectural characteristics of the depot remain. More on the Accord Depot here.
FLY Modern 2
Perched along a quiet mountain road in the Hudson Valley, this one-bedroom home and aerial studio signifies a fresh focus and new beginning for 2 city-dwellers moving to the country. Our design for FLY Modern developed from an ambitious and playful form into a more secure and thoughtful home. Anchored on one side by the double height aerial studio and the other by the 2 story living spaces, a cantilevered balcony emerges from the space in between. This elevated perch provides the perfect platform for morning meditations or watching the sun set over the mountains. See more FLY Modern 2 here.
Bully Hill House
Bully Hill House is the ideal escape for a couple that is ready to downsize and begin their next chapter. Our clients are looking forward to having a home in which they can focus on their interests and hobbies while remaining connected to their family-oriented lifestyle.
Perched at the top of rolling farmland, the house peeks out playfully from behind the hills… See more here.
CasaNooga
As demonstrated by the name our clients chose for their home, this playful project is all about its site within the beautiful city of Chattanooga… As much as the interior of the house pulls visitors to views of the city, our clients also have a rich family life. To encourage the type of quality time that our clients enjoy in their current home, we made the conscious choice to minimize bedroom size and maximize family spaces, with a separate family room and play space. A number of moments in the home are designed for pure fun – from playing amongst the levels of a three story stair, to a long hallway intended for indoor soccer games, to tucked away spaces for reading… See more here.
Malum Malum
A passionate artist and talented musician, our clients asked us to design a guest house + studio that was efficient yet eclectic and reflected the design of their mid-century modern home. Malum Malum’s two connected structures include a two-bedroom guest house with a lofted art-studio above, and a music studio designed with seven sides so as to maximize the acoustic quality of the space. See more here.
(We have permit in hand for this project and will be breaking ground ANY DAY NOW! Very excited to get started!)
Farm BnB
Inspired by hilltop views of the Shawanagunks Mountains, the traditional farm and barn structures dotting the site, and New York’s Hudson Valley, the Farm BnB strikes the perfect balance between recognizable forms and clean, elegant lines. Rooted in its relationship to the rest of the farm, the BnB is oriented around a vegan kitchen, features a communal dining and living space that extends into a deck cantilevered above the farm’s goat pasture (#FarmBnBGoatDeck), and provides balconies inside modern dormer spaces for each guest bedroom. Oh that view!!!
Chalet Perche
Chalet Perche sits at the top of an elevated site, rising to take advantage of distant mountain views above a forested canopy. Designed for a young couple that are energetic creatives in both their personal and professional lives, the home draws its inspiration from both modern minimalist houses and the iconic French chalet. See more here.
Hyde Park House
In love with the location but not with the house, our clients asked us to turn their cozy single-story residence in the historic neighborhood of Hyde Park into a comfortable and contemporary home. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to take this non-conforming lot and turn it into the first modern home within the fabric of Hyde Park… See more here.
