New Projects “On the Boards” – Spring 2018

New Projects “On the Boards”

It has been far too long since we’ve updated our “On the Boards” section with current projects, so today we are sharing 5 new projects with you. We’ve added new media to some of the “old” projects too so feel free to peruse. I’ve got a very proud studio behind me that has enjoyed this process of putting “our best work forward,” so we appreciate all of your wanderings on our website!

CasaNooga

Chatta House inspiration - Studio MM Architect

As demonstrated by the name our clients chose for their home, this playful project is all about its site within the beautiful city of Chattanooga. Our clients are extremely proud to call North Chatt their home and have set out to teach their 2 young children to love the city as much as they do. Their new home sits perched above the Walnut Street Bridge in North Chattanooga, overlooking their favorite cultural and historical icons in downtown, from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to Lookout Mountain and beyond.
As much as the interior of the house pulls visitors to views of the city, our clients also have a rich family life. To encourage the type of quality time that our clients enjoy in their current home, we made the conscious choice to minimize bedroom size and maximize family spaces…  …See more.

Courtyard House

Modern Home in the Gunks - Studio MM Architect

The clients for the Courtyard House chose to work with us specifically because of our emphasis on the process of designing a home in addition to the final product. We were thrilled – particularly because we began working with them as they were searching for the perfect site. Nestled in the foothills of the Shawangunk mountains, the 9-acre parcel features amazing nearly-180-degree views to the south, a direct border with the Minnewaska State Park Preserve, and privacy and peace-and-quiet in all directions… …See more.

Tranquil Abiding

Tranquil Abiding - Modern Home in Upstate NY - Studio MM Architect

Tranquil Abiding is both a retreat for our clients to appreciate the serenity of nature and a place for contemplation to pursue their internal peace.

With a deep respect for the natural environment, our clients would like their home to celebrate the beautiful landscape of Upstate NY, yet remain modest in scale and form to coexist in harmony with the surrounding woods. The living room and bedroom views are oriented towards the creek, and the floor plan layout opens to take advantage of the southern sun. Inspired by our clients’ deep spiritual connection with the Meditation Center on the neighboring property, the entryway and meditation room in the house align with the Temple next door, subtly directing what will be our clients’ daily journey through the woods…  …See more.

Cat Hill

Cat Hill - Modern Home Upstate NY - Studio MM Architect

Our Cat Hill client has a strong belief that with hard work anything is possible. A celebration of her accomplishments in life thus far, this much awaited retreat for an avid runner and cyclist is perched on a ridge with views of the Catskill Mountains. Inspired by our client’s own journey in life, our goals for this design are to create an impressive yet modest house with a few special “magic moments” that make it home.
The design responds to the steep and dramatic topography, creating natural angles between programmatic elements. A long gallery space highlights a meaningful art collection and culminates in a glass fitness studio that extends above the ridge… …See more.

Malum Malum

Malum Malum - Modern Guest House and Music Studio in the Hudson Valley

A passionate artist and talented musician, our clients asked us to design a guest house + studio that was efficient yet eclectic and reflected the design of their mid-century modern home. They playfully named their new house Malum Malum, which in Latin translates to “Bad Apple”, after the two crooked apple trees on their property. Malum Malum’s two connected structures include a two-bedroom guest house with a lofted art-studio above, and a music studio designed with seven sides so as to maximize the acoustic quality of the space… …See more.
