How can we design an Outdoor Living Space that can be used for at least 10 months out of the year?
I’m not sure if it’s the fact that many of our projects are located in the gorgeous Catskills area of NY’s Hudson Valley or because most of our clients are outdoorsy and active people, but “outdoor living space” has been very high on almost all “must have” lists. And I’m not talking about a “side deck” or “entry patio” kind of outdoor space – I mean one that is completely integral to the design as a space that could be used on a daily basis for at least 10 months out of the year. For example, one of our clients – who is a chef – actually put “large outdoor space” as a top priority over kitchen!
Now don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of brilliantly designed decks that work quite nicely with their adjacent architecture. I don’t think its just a roof overhead. I think it’s more about designing a space that feels cozy and has a purpose – a living space. Outdoors. Perhaps what I’m trying to describe here is done better with images… (this is a perfect example of why we creative-types (I) prefer to speak in images or sketches rather than words!)

Even though the weather is getting colder, don’t these images just make you want to cozy up in one of these outdoor living spaces?!
