As our project for Campion Farms moves forward, we thought we’d share some of the design inspiration behind one of its top-wish-list features – a modern screened-in porch. Particularly during the summer in the Northeast, screened-in porches can be the most lived in part of the home. As spaces that are neither entirely interior nor exterior, they can provide the best of both settings – truly maximizing indoor-outdoor living. We have often had clients ask if there could be an elegant, modern solution for a screened-in porch… which was the generation of today’s inspiration.
Screened-in porches undoubtedly enhance the experience of a home and its connection to the exterior. Unfortunately, reality is that warm weather brings bugs, and therefore screens are a critical design element for anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors bug-free in their home. Rather than thinking of a screened-in porch as auxiliary to the massing and use of a home, which seems to be typical of so many screened-in porches, we looked to these contemporary precedents for inspiration…
