Construction Update November: BC Retreat

A couple of weekends ago, the whole Studio MM team was able to make it up to the BC Retreat site in Saugerties for a socially-distanced site visit. There was lots to see! Everyone on site has been hard at work and we were able to see the results of the first concrete pour – footings for the foundations. This visit was particularly special as it was the first time Gina, the Project Manager, was able to see the site – and it’s her first house under construction with Studio MM. We’re excited to share a few photos from the visit – you can really start to see how the house will be oriented on the site and how it’s all going to fit together.

In addition to what’s been happening onsite, Gina and Marica have been doing lots of work coordinating details and structure between our contractor and the steel fabricator. All of the steel is being pre-fabricated off-site so it is critical that we double and triple check how each and every piece will go together and be placed (horizontally or vertically) on the site. This also means that we have to really understand the sequence of construction and how the framing, foundation and steel all work together in layers of building. It’s a bit more challenging to coordinate when we aren’t able to be on site as much due to Covid, but through zoom meetings, phone calls and coordination with the contractor, engineer, and fabricator they’ve been finding ways to make it happen.

The site is so rocky that the contractors had to do a lot of hammering onsite, making for a pretty awesome texture in the foundation trenches.
