Often the best way for us to communicate, whether it’s with a client or within the office, is through images. Sometimes it’s a quick sketch on the back of a napkin or a simple line drawing to describe a detail – no matter what the medium, when I’m talking about architecture, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Floating Houses
We are currently working on the design of a house where the view is in the direction of the downhill slope. Our challenge was to design a home that includes all of our client’s wish-list without manipulating the gently sloping site. (Challenges are always the most fun!) Our solution was to design a house in which the main living area floats above the ground. (An early schematic design model.)
Design Inspiration
During design meetings with clients we always present inspiration images along with our schemes and usually find ourselves pulling up more images on a laptop or phone as we talk through ideas. Since we frequently share collections of these inspiration images here on the blog, I wanted to note how important they are to our process. Below we’re sharing a few of the images we’ve been collecting for inspiration. Super cool!
