Studio Update: October

Our past month has had a lot of exciting news and activity! We’ve been traveling, designing, celebrating some wins and publishing.

Forbes Best-In-State

If you haven’t heard, we’re very excited and honored to have been selected as one of Forbes’ Best in State Residential Architects for 2025. The selection criteria for this recognition were thoughtful, thorough and calibrated to each state’s unique conditions. Thanks to Forbes for the recognition and to Richard Olsen for his work on the program.

CRAN Symposium 2025

A few of our team members were able to attend one of our firm-favorite annual events. This year’s CRAN symposium took place in mid-September in Alexandria, Virginia. We were able to hear from some incredible speakers, visited six stunning homes in the greater DC area, and both met and reconnected with architects and other practitioners in residential architecture. We all had a fantastic time and are looking forward to next year’s symposium in San Antonio!

Valley MMag: Issue 08 & RD Magazine

Valley MMag was included in a short write-up in the latest issue of RD Magazine. The article reflected on our reasons for starting Valley MMag, shared how the magazine has changed and evolved, and offered a few thoughts for other residential architects considering self-publishing.

We also published our eighth issue of Valley MMag! Our feature interview for the issue was with Tristan Migliore of Whitecliff Vineyard and Winery. We were also lucky to spend time with artist Laleh Khorramian, and were able to include a few new contributors in the latest issue!

Team Lunch

We were also invited to visit the team at Harbrook Windows and Doors for lunch. We had a wonderful time connecting with the team and really enjoyed our visit!

In Construction

Accord Addition

Accord Addition is continuing to make fast progress. The addition scope is nearing completion and the pool house has cladding in progress and is looking sharp!

Quattro

The slab has been poured at Quattro. The piers for the carport and decks have also now been completed, and we recently approved steel shop drawings, so we are looking forward to framing starting up very soon!

MCM Reno

The first bathroom renovation at MCM Reno is complete! The clients are so excited that this phase of the renovation is complete. We’re looking forward to progress continuing on the rest of the project. Once we have cooperative weather, we’ll be pouring new concrete to reinforce portions of the home.

Pond Lane

We are so in love with the new window openings at Pond Lane! We are looking forward to the windows being installed – the space with the steel ties already looks amazing!

Mt. Tremper Cottage

This renovation project is small but mighty! The siding was cleaned up, reversed and reused for the new cladding. Corrugated metal roofing was installed, a new slab was poured to replace the brick flooring. Colbi sketched the new entry and skylight framing on top of the progress thus far – we love how it’s looking!

Artists’ Ranch

Insulation and interior work are continuing at Artists’ Ranch. Our incredible client also built his own landscaping model to figure out how best to approach the extended landscaping around their existing pool and the new addition. How cool!!

Gardiner Art Studio

Our client recently shared this photo of Gardiner Art Studio, complete with landscaping! We love this little project and how the landscaping has transformed the exterior of the space!

8 Oaks

We are getting so close to the finish line! The millwork looks gorgeous – including the built in buffet cabinet in the primary dining room and the custom built vanity with mirrors in the main bathroom.

Vannstrøm

Drywall installation is ongoing at Vannstrøm! The space is really starting to come together. We can’t wait for finishes to start going in soon!

In Design

Acorn Hill

We are in the mist of Schematic Design with our clients for Acorn Hill. We’ve been sketching and scheming and are looking forward to tackling the exterior design for this project!

Misty Hollow

We are still working with our client for Misty Hollow to determine the best solution for their larger family home. The latest design includes large triangular windows, and three distinct volumes that are oriented perpendicular to one another, creating a dynamic roofline and a smaller scale for each area of the home. We love the direction the design has taken! Currently we’re awaiting feedback from our GC on the project before hopefully continuing onwards.

Shokan Reno

We’ve continued to work with our clients for Shokan Reno on finalizing finish selections and furniture for their renovation. We love how fun the selection options are for the kids’ room!
