Residential Design Inspiration: Modern Cabins

Recently we’ve been doing a lot of research on Modern Cabins and have fallen in love with quite a few! We’ve got a(nother) very fun client who is interested in building a modest modern cabin on his property in the Hudson Valley and we’ve been going back and forth with ideas…

His property is a gorgeous wooded parcel a few hours north of New York City with a year-round stream and beautiful hardwood trees… the surrounding views are amazing. The inspiration is easy! Our main design challenge is how to create a beautiful modern cabin with expansive views of the outdoors (read: lots of windows) that is efficient and sufficient and within our client’s budget.

…And we’re very excited for the challenge!

More Modern Cabins? I must recommend one of my new favorite books (thanks to a friend who sent this to me for inspiration so that one day I could build her her own “modern shack”): Rock The Shack. In their post titled Rock the Shack: Cabin Love, dwell put it best: “Sometimes the only thing getting us through the day is the dream of an escape—from work, from the city, from our day-to-day…The cottages, tree houses, cabins, and shelters featured in the hefty tome will take your dreams and turn them up to 11…”
