There are many reasons to design a tower house – you own a small lot, it looks cool, or you’d like to keep a small footprint… but I’d say the most common reason to design a tower house is to take advantage of the views!

We are very familiar with designing modern homes for heavily wooded properties. I’ve thought more than once that if we could just get the house up, higher than the treetops, we would have amazing views! The design for our Cubed House is 3 stories for just that reason – from the Master Bedroom and terrace on the 3rd floor the views to the Catskill Mountains are spectacular. (I wouldn’t say Cubed qualifies as a “Tower House” but the goal is the same.)
We are working on another project that has “forever views” to the south – just visible through the trees, and we’re seriously considering building up so we can capture those views. Below we share some of our inspiration we’ve pulled together for this project…
