Located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York, this weekend home is set within 8 acres of dense woods bordering the Mombaccus Creek. The house draws on the privacy of its surroundings to provide a quiet escape from the intensity of city-life.
Situated at the top of a steep slope, the Black and Tan House follows the angle of the ridgeline, allowing perpendicular views over the tops of the trees lower on the hill. Similar in concept to that of the Creek House, the plan for the Black and Tan House offers a spacious and flexible floor plan to accommodates varying needs of the homeowner – from a quiet weekend for two to family and friends gathered for an evening of casual entertainment.
The Black & Tan house gets its name from the contrasting materials on the exterior of the house. Rustic and dark stained siding is used to enclose the private areas of the home, while the windows and doors are detailed with a natural wood finish highlighting the moments in which the house opens up to its surroundings.
